FAQ's

Why a Giving Campaign?

  • In 2008, the PTO Board took a serious look at the previous fundraisers and came to the conclusion: ONE SINGLE fundraiser for the entire school year made more dollars and sense!  100% of the money goes to Highland – no start-up costs or vendors take a cut.
  • Donations are tax-deductible thanks to our PTO non-profit organization status.

How much do we need to raise?

This year's Giving Campaign goal is $55,000. Due to careful reassessment of expenditures, we are pleased to be able to ask for the same amount of money per child this year. At $150 per child, it is less than $1 per school day to provide our enhanced programming.

Why is Highland PTO's budget higher than most other PTO's/PTA's in town?

Highland's budget tends to be higher than other school PTO budgets for 2 reasons:

  1. Highland teachers use the Scottish Storyline method, which requires more time and effort to create and implement. Nearly 70% of the budget supports Storyline-related activities.
  2. Highland does not receive Title I Funding that many schools receive. Title I is a federal program that provides financial assistance to local education agencies and schools with high numbers or high percentages of economically disadvantaged children to help ensure that all children meet challenging state academic standards.

Where does the money go?

100% of the money goes directly to providing services and supplies for Highland students and programs.
  • The Scottish Storyline Method – provide consultants and curriculum planning, field trips, release time for curriculum planning days, teacher trainings, and classroom materials.
  • Academic Program Enhancement – provide additional funds for science, reading, speech, PE, art, music, technology and special education materials.
  • Culture and Social Support – provide funding for the Positive Behavior Intervention & Support (PBIS) program, mileage club, scholarships, playground equipment, teacher appreciation, community events and miscellaneous operating expenses.

How can I help?

There are a variety of ways you can support students through the Giving Campaign:

1. Make a monetary donation of any amount. No amount is too small, every donation makes a difference.

2. Invite Family and Friends to contribute individually or as a business donor.

  • Share our Corporate Donor Card with businesses you support or know personally.
  • Send names and contact information to gc@highlandpto.org and we'll contact them on your behalf.

3. Volunteer to help with the various duties of the campaign. Time is often more valuable than money.  Email gc@highlandpto.org if you would like to volunteer your time!

4. Ask if your employer matches donations to non-profit organizations. Employer matching is an EASY way for you to help Highland raise money.

    • To find out if your employer has a matching policy, contact your human resources department. It may be as easy as filling out an online form that takes 5-10 minutes, which could then double your contribution! To help make sure we take advantage of this opportunity, the Giving Campaign will help you research employers.  Email the Giving Campaign at gc@highlandpto.org with the company name and address.
